DETAILS OF POSITION

Location: Santa Maria  /  Full-Time: Monday - Friday  /  Hours: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, hours may vary  /  Starting Rate: $19.00 per hour


PURPOSE OF POSITION

VTC Enterprises has been supporting people with developmental disabilities since 1962. Part of fulfilling our mission includes providing individuals with employment opportunities and community experiences to develop and promote their independence.

We are seeking a motivated, patient, and dependable Job Coach to provide on-the-job training and support for the individuals we serve. Preference will be given to applicants with food service and/or restaurant experience.

The Job Coach will be involved in assisting individuals with goal planning, improving and stabilizing their job performance to optimize employment success, and facilitating their independence in areas such as health maintenance, personal empowerment, and community involvement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

On-the-Job Training and Support:

  • Provide on-the-job training for clients at various community work sites.
  • Implement client Individualized Plan for employment including specific skill training and adjustment to work environment.
  • Develop adaptive methods to complete job tasks based on the participant’s needs.
  • Implement fading plans.
  • Complete required paperwork within designated time period (i.e., progress reports, log notes, employer evaluation, billable hours)
  • Review progress with the IDT and employer as defined in Individualized Plan for employment.
  • Participate in case reviews and goal planning.
  • Once fading plan is complete, coordinate follow up services with the IDT.

Personal, Social, and Community Service:

  • Provide services to facilitate client’s independence in such areas as health maintenance, personal empowerment, and community involvement.
  • Implement client’s service plan as developed during the intake process by the IDT
  • Complete required paperwork within designated time periods. (i.e., monthly service reports, progress notes.
  • Review client’s progress with IDT.

Provide Assessment Services at Community Work Sites:

  • Develop assessment sites (as assigned by Operations Manager).
  • Complete in-take procedures in coordination with the Director of Individual Services for assigned ESA referrals (non-client).
  • Schedule clients on a master schedule.
  • Arrange initial and exit interview meetings with clients, VTC staff and funding agency.
  • Coordinate and/or provide transportation to and from assessment sites.
  • Provide pertinent information on a daily basis to the Operations Manager.
  • Complete required paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Complete and submit ESA draft report on the last day of assessment.

Community Awareness:

  • Attend job development networking functions as scheduled.
  • Conduct community presentations to promote VTC services as scheduled.
  • Participate in VTC community events as scheduled.
  • Communicate as necessary with referral agencies, special education teachers, community agencies, and employers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in business, social services or related field is preferred. Experience in varied business environments or working with people with developmental disabilities.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to remember oral or written instructions provided by others. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to Individuals served and other employees.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and management. Interact diplomatically with the public. Foster a stimulating, accepting learning environment.

SELF-MANAGEMENT SKILLS: Perform effectively in environments with frequent workload changes and competing demands. Set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic written or oral instructions. Ability to think through the consequences of a decision prior to making it. Ability to recognize an emergency situation and take appropriate action.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid driver’s license with an insurable record. Must have an insured vehicle available for use during the course of employment.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must be able to work before and after regular VTC business hours. Must meet and maintain Community Care Licensing criminal history criteria.
