NBVC Grounds Worker - Qualifying Disability Required
Full-time, Work days are M-F, Hours are 7:00am - 3:30pm Rate of pay is $14.40/hr
A qualifying disability is required for this position. A qualifying disability may be a result of injury, disease or congenital defect which limits the person's functional capabilities.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Project Manager, the NBVC Grounds Worker is responsible for a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance work at areas throughout the assigned Military Base.
Complete grounds maintenance requirements as specified in the base contract.
Perform routine cleaning, preventative maintenance and minor repair tasks on tools and equipment as required.
Operate hand tools and power tools commonly utilized in grounds maintenance operations safely.
Perform plant bed maintenance which includes fertilizing, weeding, mulching and policing.
Prune shrubs, hedges and vines including cleanup and debris removal.
Trim and edge around walks, flower beds and walls including cleanup and debris removal.
Turf rejuvenation to include dethatching, aerating, seeding and fertilizing.
Safely operate riding lawn movers to maintain grounds in a manner that meets or exceed government quality specifications.
Education and/or Experience: No minimum education requirements.
Knowledge of Grounds Maintenance Tools: Must be able to safely use the following tools: backpack blower, hedge trimmer, and line trimmer.
Communication Skills: Ability to remember and follow verbal directions. Able to understand written or oral equipment operation procedures. Ability to work as part of a team.
Self-Management Skills: Perform effectively in environments with frequent workload changes and competing demands. Set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic written or oral instructions. Ability to think through the consequences of a decision prior to making it. Ability to recognize an emergency situation and take appropriate action.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Much be able to meet and maintain requirements to obtain entrance onto Naval Base Ventura County. Must have a valid driver’s license with an insurable record.
Other Skills and Abilities: Must be willing and able to work up to 8 hours per shift. Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Preference given to qualifying individuals with disabilities and Disabled Veterans.
